The Goodis Center is currently seeking reliable, well-informed individuals to help with our many projects as unpaid interns. We are seeking candidates for research-intensive internships, as well as functional and organizational specialized internships.
Eligibility, offerings, and further details appear below. Please read on for more information and Contact Us with any questions.
Additional information is now available on our special page for Jobs, Internships, Fellowships and Volunteer Opportunities.
Eligibility:
Candidates interested in applying for our unpaid internships must be at least 16 years of age and must have reliable internet access.
Because all intern positions are unpaid, there is no work-status or residency requirement. Interns may provide their services from anywhere in the world. You do not need to be a U.S. Citizen.
Applicants with recent or current academic experience should have a minimum 3.2 GPA or equivalent. Interns are expected to maintain that minimum GPA.
Applicants must demonstrate an interest in human rights, human advancement, social justice, and some of the many topics addressed by The Goodis Center's programs, website, and publications. Related work experience is not necessary.
Of course, like any company, we are looking for self-motivated individuals who are goal-oriented and excellent communicators. However, catchphrases are not going to impress us.
The following are examples of the traits and skills we need. This list is not comprehensive.
General RESEARCH Interests:
We will consider interns with no relevant subject-interests if their skills are specialized in a needed area.
Desired Skills, Specialties, Experience:
Payment and Rights:
Interns will not be paid for their work; however, some assignments for research- and arts- interns may be reimbursed for pre-approved expenses.
Interns will receive by-line credit for any original research or artistic creation they complete under assignment from The Goodis Center and will retain certain rights over all their original works, to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Interns will be assigned to tasks based upon their individual interests, skills, and qualifications.
Research and arts interns will be expected to complete at least one research-intensive or artistic assignment for each issue of our Journal for Human Advancement published while the intern is with us. Assignments will be given as far in advance as possible. We are willing to work with schools, colleges, and universities to tailor your research or artwork so that you may receive academic credit for your work.
Business, logistics, organizational, and other administratively-themed interns will be expected to participate in regular communications to discuss business progress and potential. This may consist of emails, phone conferences, or in-person meetings. Administrative interns will be scheduled according to their availability. Business, finance, and economics students may be able to receive academic credit for this internship, and we are willing to customize your tasks to suit the requirements of your academic institution.
Service-based internships such as web-design, publications, secretarial, communications, advertising, marketing, community organizing, event-planning, graphic design, layout, editing, and so forth may also fall under a business, research, or art internship, depending on your needs. Tasks will be assigned based on skill-level, expertise, and interests. Tasks may range from website updates to overhauls, or comparable tasks for other specialized areas.
Before you go through all the trouble of preparing your transcripts, CV, writing samples and portfolio, send us an email at internships@robertgoodis.org to let us know who you are and where you see yourself fitting in with our needs. If you want to send all of that stuff along with your first email anyways, go right ahead.
Expect a reply from us within 1-2 weeks. If you don't hear back within that time, send us another message to check in - sometimes emails get lost.
Alternatively, to send your information to us by the Postal Service, use our address listed at the bottom of every page on this website.
